Despite the lack of support for painting our front door purple I insisted and we did it. It looked amazing. Do it. Or a really good red.

Beautiful, Tracy! My colour is red, though I seem to wear a lot of pink lately - and yes, I like wearing pink, but I would never describe myself as a pink person, as that seems like someone I’m not. Hmmm. Interesting! So sad about today’s result. x

Thanks, this piece made me laugh and reflect. Red and purple - my favourite colours! And I actually have a purple front door... Life's too short for white or brown front doors.

You do? I think I’m going to give it a try. I mean if it doesn’t work I can always paint over it (though that’s not really true because painting is so boring I’d probably just leave it)

Got me thinking - what IS my favourite colour? I would have said red, but there’s hardly any red in the wardrobe. Instead, lots of black and dark colours, even brown which is so not my colour. Then I realised I buy clothes on sale so I justv buy whatever there is, and then don’t wear it. False economy for the win.

Also, I would love a purple front door! When did our kids become so practical?

I try to only buy clothes on sale too or at the discount outlets, but it definitely limits your choices. I make quite a few of my clothes, but if I look through my fabric drawers I see a lot of red there too

Making clothes is a true skill. Have been inspired by Great British Sewing Bee and my sister in law, and have pinched her old sewing machine. Stuffed up within 15 minutes trying to change the thread (her comment was “uhhh that part is not supposed to come off the machine”) so now I wait until she can rethread it for me.

Reading your letter makes me wonder: how many people never actually wear their favourite colour? Or rarely?

That’s a really interesting question, judging by the replies here and in my email, there’s lots who never do
